I have a Dell 2400 desktop. I'm wanting to install the most RAM that I can. I looked up both, Dell and the mother board manufacturer and they do not seem to agree. Dell says 2 x 512MB and manufacturer says 2 x 1GB.... The mother board is a Bluford E139765.. I am thinking of going with the manufacturer, but am not completely sure. Would love some opinions on this. Maybe even somebody has done this and can let me know what the outcome was. Thanks.Do I install what Dell says or what the motherboard manufacturer says?http://www.crucial.com/index.aspx
scan it
the motherboard manufacturer might assume the latest bios flash, but the dullards at dell will have a custom bios, scanning it is the best way to find outDo I install what Dell says or what the motherboard manufacturer says?Go with the manufacturer of the motherboard, dell is simply a systems integrator, they may have recommended 2 x 512mb as they may have tested that model with that exact setup.
Its in there best interest, as if they recommend and dont test , they may have to deal with hundreds of warranty claims/ returnsDo I install what Dell says or what the motherboard manufacturer says?I would not exceed Dell's recommendations. Even though the mfg states one thing, they may me a MB a little different for Dell (probably a cost thing). Dell's systems are pretty proprietary, so adding or changing the configuration is somewhat a pain in the ........! Wouldnt want you to waste $$$ on RAM you cant use.
