Does Dell make a laptop that can be used in sunlight?

I'm shopping for a new laptop that I can read outdoors. I currently own a Sony Vaio with a really sharp screen, but the effective contrast must be horrible - I can't even tell if the screen is on outside. I've owned several Dell systems and have been really happy and would like to take that path again, but I need some help!Does Dell make a laptop that can be used in sunlight?i dunno how good they work but they make anti-glare applicators for laptop screens

Why would Dell want to know if I am buying for a business?

I am starting a business. I have ordered from Dell in the past, and they always ask if the product is for personal use or for a business. Why would Dell want to know if I am buying for a business?Probably just because they wish to keep track of and categorize their sales into separate categories - business sales and personal sales.

On my Dell laptop, when using the webcam, what are the settings to make the picture look normal?

What are the correct settings? I clicked a button, and now its messed up! Can anybody with a dell tell me what the correct settings are?On my Dell laptop, when using the webcam, what are the settings to make the picture look normal?every program has a place where settings came be changed. The desk top itself can be part of the problem. If the pixels in the camera are 420x420 or 360x360 they will be a small picture. I had a web cam that goes to 720x720 (something like that). It was about 1/4 of the desk top. the larger the desktop settings are the smaller the web cam picture. Go to the desktop with out a website or program on it.. then right click on the screen. Then go to the bottom of the block and click on property's.. then click at the settings tab.. you will see about half way down the screen size. If it is above 1024x768 then your web cam will be very small. You should be able to right click on the web cam picture and get some settings. On my Dell laptop, when using the webcam, what are the settings to make the picture look normal?replace said dell with a better laptop

Can my Dell Inspirion's recovery drive still work after overwriting it with another OS?

I have a Dell Inspiron laptop running on Windows Vista and it comes with a recovery drive. I want to momentarily use a linux on my laptop (actual, not virtual) and bring back the files in the drive after using it. Will it affect the original OS? Is it gonna work?

As long as you are writting on your backup drive, you should have no problems. You can wipe the puppy out, put what you want on it, wipe it out again, and make it a backup all over. It is as easy as tossing the ball, catch it in the cup, drop the ball, toss it, and catch again. And if you miss, don't worry, the ball is attached to a string that is attached to the cup. Ball-n-a cup!Can my Dell Inspirion's recovery drive still work after overwriting it with another OS?You can use a linux live cd to get back the files on the hard drive and not make any changes to the hard drive. Will a dell inspiron 600m be wifi compatible with an apple extreme airport?

I have an apple airport extreme at home for wifi connection. I have the chance to get a dell 600m for a very low cost. I am wondering if its possible for the 600m to get wifi from the airport? Will a dell inspiron 600m be wifi compatible with an apple extreme airport?Yup, they all meet the same standards. The Dell may not support the 802.11n spec (as the AP Extreme does) but they both support 802.11b/g... which means the Dell can't match the top speed of a recent APE but it'll work fine.

How hot can you get the CPU on a dell laptop?

I have a dell inspiron 1545 laptop and I recently got the program Speccy. It told me that my CPU was running between 80-86 degrees celcius when I was doing low power tasks. (Web surfing and charging my ipod) Is this bad for the CPU or not?How hot can you get the CPU on a dell laptop? That is reasonably hot. Intel CPU's shut down for safety at around 105 degC.

How old is the laptop. If it is a year old or more it may need a vacuum to remove the dust.

What surface are you using it on. Laptops are now referred to as notebooks because they are generally not suitable to use on your lap. The computer sinks into soft surfaces so the air intakes are blocked, no airflow means excessive heat. How hot can you get the CPU on a dell laptop?I think that might be high? I'm also no expert, but you might want to clean the heatsink on the CPU because laptops get a lot of hair and dust.

How Do I Say This In Filipino?

Okay, so my boyfriend is filipino, and recently moved to the Philippines. He really wants me to learn tagalog, but I'm totally clueless because I'm american, and I know nothing on the language lol. I want to surprise him, and write him a letter in his language...But I don't know any accurate translators online :/ does anyone know any ? And does anyone know specifically how to say "You are my sunshine." ? I looked it up and it said "Ikaw ay aking liwanag ng araw." But I am not sure if it is correct. Help please (:How Do I Say This In Filipino?
you can just say "ikaw ang linwanag ko" :))

no need for the "ang araw" stuff.
If you take it the literal way, it's correct. However, I think what you really mean is "Ikaw ang liwanag ng aking buhay," which is also equivalent to "You are the light of my life."

I suggest you to refrain from idiomatic expressions, because translators, naturally, post the literal meaning. Raining cats and dogs would mean "umuulan ng mga pusa't aso," for instance. Keep your letter as literal as possible to avoid having your meaning diverted. Good luck with the letter. How Do I Say This In Filipino?
whaddup im proud to be pinoy. that's a word per word direct translation

"ikaw ang nagbibigay ng liwanag sa aking pinakamadilim na gabi"

i changed it cause sweet lines in english are not so sweet in filipino

so i changed it to you give light on my darkest night

but if you want 'you are my sunshine' then "ikaw ang aking liwanag" is fine take out 'ng araw' its like saying youre my sunshine from the sun
alyssa, my tagalog is basic words only but i will translate for you. "ikaw ang nagbibigay ng liwanag sa buhay ko" in english its kinda like you are the sunshine of my life (remember song?). ewwww i am so romantic and corny. How Do I Say This In Filipino?

yes that is correct. if your still unsure try this mahal kita

    (ma-hall kee-tah) it means i love you
The "You are my sunshine" is correct.
"Ikaw ang aking liwanag" is the correct answer I guess.........
"Ikaw ay aking liwanag ng araw" your right!
    correct....you're so sweet..hehe
why you need tagalog... write what you know... simple as that my dear... love is simple and very delicate... what if he knows that you did it from others... it will not be from your my dear.. he need you real heart and love... not that man made love ... so wirte just simple letters and with love... if you are married then you are a nice life partners.. GOD wants real family life and a serious relationship... not just sexual love or others written letter... take care and God bless you... read the rest also and care with God's word... see you in heaven....

God's word forbids sexual relationships outside marriage.

Hebrews 13:4 - Marriage is honorable and the sexual relationship (the "bed") is undefiled only within marriage. Note that the sexual union is not inherently evil. But the passage defines "fornication" and "adultery" to be sexual union ("the bed") outside marriage. God will judge such conduct.

Revelation 21:8; 22:14,15 - Fornicators are among those who will not enter heaven but will be in the lake of fire.

1 Corinthians 7:2-4 - To avoid fornication, one should satisfy the sexual desire only with "his own wife" or "husband." God expressly confirms that marriage companions must be of the opposite gender and that each may satisfy sexual desires only with his/her marital companion.

So, marriage is the authorized relationship for satisfying the need for lifetime companionship and for sexual affection. But it involves one man with one woman with a lifetime commitment. Only that relationship is honorable by God's decree.

God says sexual relations before or outside marriage are wrong, no matter how much we care for the other person. These passages should settle the issue. But sometimes God gives additional reasons for His decrees. Consider additional reasons He gives for saving ourselves for our marriage companion.

    School in the Philippines? ?

My boyfriend of three years in Filipino, and his family is from there. I'm mixed with white Spanish and a little bit Chinese. I take major pride in heritage. And we plan on making lots of babies. And I want them to be able to speak the language. I think I want it to be there first language. And I'm looking to become fluent to the Tagalog language.. (: I speak Spanish English and Chinese. My goal Acer college is to become a language teacher as well as a translator. And I personally adore the Philippines. Its beautiful. But I'm just wondering how and if I could go to school there. And if it is my best choice. As well as how easy is it to find a job there for someone who looks white. What are my best choices? What courses could I take? Or should we take or majors here and move there after college?School in the Philippines? ?
what part of the Philippines are you planning to stay anyway? there are good school scattered all over the country. but if it is tagalog that you wanted to learn, then you probably will he staying in manila. your skin color doesnt matter as long as you qualify for any job you are intrested in. as for a school. i can name a few. theres my school UST (university of SANTO TOMAS) that is in Manila. Mirriam College in Quezon City. St. Sholastica in Manila is exclusive for girls. im sure there are others who teaches languages but those are the 3 had in mind. search the net for universities and colleges and the courses they offer and contact them thru email if they provide what you require.School in the Philippines? ?
I'd do school here, see if you there is a semester abroad available where you could go to the Philippines and study, and then make your decision after your done with school. Studying abroad will give you a decent feel for the country, job market, housing market, etc... and help you decide how and if to move there.School in the Philippines? ?
Jobs are nationalized, meaning you can't get a job unless you become a Filipino Citizen. Well you can, but there would be some requirements first, like a certification that there are no Filipinos available who can do the job that you do.
try seaching first if there is a tagalog language course you can learn from online! that will be very helpful

Could somebody help me with translations from english to tagalog pls?

Some girl gave me translation, but without last paragraph:):)...thanks

In few months I'm going to Philippines with my girlfriend(she is Filipina).....during the meeting with all her family I like to give her engagement ring.....and do it in Tagalog:).

I know that internet translators are not so good, that's why I'm asking for help here.

I like to tell" this is a ring for You Raquel as a confirmation my love for You.I promise now to Your family that I will take care of You........I found translations like this " ito ay isang sing sing para kang Raquel.

Upang kumpirmahin ang aking mga pag ibig para sa ka.Pangako kong alagaan ka ngayon sa iyong pamilya....thanks for help|||Your translation has a warped up grammar! Be sure not to use it, you'll look like a 'tanga'....

Here's a better one, I did my best to translate in such a way that it's stylish but at the same time colloquial. And it's actually more stylish if you put some 'English' into it, because ironically it will make you sound more like a real Filiipino (real Filiipinos use both English and Tagalog naturally)

"Itong sing-sing na to para sa iyo Raquel, symbol ng aking pag-ibig para sa iyo. Now I promise to your family, aalagaan kita nang mabuti, habang buhay.

below is the way of saying it: capitalised letters are stressed (this is what stress-accent means: FALL-acy, not fall-ACy; stressed on first syllable, but colOGNE is stressed in second syllable)

Remember, pause for a bit on the commas, moreso than in English

'itOng singsIng natO, pAra sayO Raquel, symbol nang Aking pagIBig PAra sa (silent 'i')yO. Now I promise to your family, na a-alaGA-an kitA nang maBUte, HAbang Buhay

I think it's better to address the family themselves, instead of just saying 'I promise to your family' as if they were a third party. You can say instead in the last sentence:

Alagaan kita nang mabuti, (then look at her family with a comforting smile on your face and say:) pangako ko po sa inyo, ibibigay ko po ang aking lahat sa inyong pinakamamahal na anak (pangakokopO'' sa inyO, ibibigaykoPO'' ang Aking lahAT sa inyOng pinakamamahAL na anAK) , then look at everyone in the room and say 'habang buhay'

the '' symbol means there's a guttural stop which means you suddenly stop short the pronounciation of the letter O. (guttural stop is used in the German language; master it, and 'bam dynamite'!

Us Filipinos are much more easily impressed with a good pronounciation, not so much with 'flowery' words.

Even if you use the most 'holiest of holy' words, they will be impressed a bit; but use the right accent and pronounciation: they will be shellshocked! Make sure you at least practise a bit, or else it might sound a bit fake if you use whatever accent you have now. Good luck! Remember to blow them away with your accent, because if you have the wrong accent, they just might not take it seriously :) since Filipinos are almost never used to someone speaking their language in foreign accent (so if you're okay with them having a bit of fun about your accent, then you don't need to practise)

By the way, if you're still having problems with pronouncing, here's a tip: our accent is megasimilar to the Greek people (that is, when it comes to vowels, but mastering the vowels will be enough anyway).

And Please don't use Google translator to know how they are pronounced.......and don't bother googling for Filipino sounds (it's impossible to find them). Just copy Greek pronounciation of vowels and get a gist of how strong they pronounce their consonants (most important are 'T' 'P' 'B' and 'L' (or spanish will be fine, anything with phonetic strong accent).Just get the gist of their accent, and try to imitate it how strong and 'pure' it is.|||the translation you got was quite good but you can do it better like this:

Raquel, ang singsing na ito ay para sa iyo bilang simbolo at katunayan ng aking pag-ibig at pagmamahal. Pinapangako ko sa'yo at sa pamilya mo na mamahalin at aalagaan kita habang ako'y nabubuhay.

the phrase habang ako'y nabubuhay means as long as I live. I think it would be better if I just give you the translation of each word I used. Here goes:

    singsing-ring

    simbolo-symbol

    katunayan-confirmation

    pag-ibig at pagmamahal-love

    pinapangako- i promise

    pamilya-family

    mamahalin- will love

    aalagaan- take care

What's a good language to learn?

I'm looking for something interesting with a lot of culture behind it, not necessarily a very popular language.

    Please don't suggest the following.

    -Spanish

    -German

-Asian Languages (Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Tagalog, Arabic, etc., although I wouldn't mind Persian/Farsi)

    -Italian

    -Portuguese

    -Russian

    -French

It's nothing against those languages, I just have no interest in learning them.

Besides those, suggest anything. I want to learn a language (or multiple) for a career, weather it be translator, interpreter, foreign media analyst, foreign language teacher/professor, anything that centers around foreign language. What's a good language to learn?
Well, you knocked out all the major languages.

    Here are some:

    -Polish

    -Dutch

    -Icelandic

    -Swahili

    -Haitian Creole

    -Romanian

    -Serbian

    -Czech

    -Ukranian

Edit: He said no Asian language, so that knocks out Thai and Arabic to the people below me. Also he said no German, no Spanish etc.

I am surprised people cannot follow simple guidelines to the question lol.
swahili is a very interesting language to learn or patois. What's a good language to learn?
If you learn arabic, you can make mad crazy money in the CIA. There are currently less than 10 people in the FBI and CIA that know arabic. Finish is a good one to learn, too. Not many people bother because it is so difficult, so translators are in very high demand.
Gosh, I love learning German.Such a beautiful language it is.

Here's a site you can go on to practice any language you want to learn.

(Like I said German is awesome!

http://www.livemocha.com/What's a good language to learn?
depends where you live or where you plan to work really, if you speak a more common language, chances are you'll get more work as more people demand it.

one of the Scandinavian ones maybe (Swedish, Icelandic, Norwegian.) They are quite similar to English and relatively easy to pronounce.

Polish is used a lot in certain areas but is harder to pronounce I think
Ok, for a language that is growing fast especially in the southern region, learn spanish. They are in need of translators in all trades. For business, learn German, French or an Asian language such as Korean or Japanese. BTW, all of the languages have very interesting cultures to learn so you couldn't go wrong. Good Luck, Buono Suerte, and all of that good stuff!
    try urdu i speak it.

it not that hard but once you know urdu you also know hindi or other way around. you can watch indian movies (if you r interested in it)

best of luck for any language you like to take

enjoy the language it will b easier to learn
You can't get more culture then with the historical languages : Classical Sanskrit, Classical Tamil, Classical Persian, Middle Egyptian, Classical Hebrew, Classical Greek, Classical Latin, Classical Armenian, Classical Gaelic, and Classical Ottoman Turkish.
Russian is supposed to be one of the most difficult languages in the world for an English speaker to learn, next to Finnish.

Russian, at first hearing of it, it reminds you of German, but just looking at it in the Roman alphabet says German is not gonna be of any use to you.

    Russian supposedly has:

A negative that acts like an adjective (I don't know how you can do that)

Three genders: Feminine, Masculine, and Sexless.

The Cyrillic alphabet. (you know the one, right?

three counting conjugations (English has singular and plural: Russian has singular, plural, and A LOT)

More conjugations of verbs and nouns than almost any other language

    and

it isn't a very largely spoken language outside of Russia.

The biggest reward you would get from learnig Russian would be the mastery of difficult grammer rules, allowing other languages to become much easier.

Also, Farsi would be the most helpful for you nowadays, considering the war(s?) in the Middle East.

but the truth is, almost all of the languages that "don't interest you" would be much more practical than the few remaining scraps you've left yourself open to. I personally think Spanish is a boring language to learn, but, where I live, it's practically one of official languages of the area. A person who knows Spanish, Chinese, and English, is more likely to get a job than someone who can speak Gaelic, Hebrew, Russian, Romanche, English, and Finnish. The popular languages seem boring, but you're more likely to actually use them. however, the most helpful of the ones not on your list would be Farsi.
    German! :)

  • People always assume im another race and its starting to annoy me?

I'm Filipino and white and ever since I could remember people have always mistaken me for being Mexican, Puerto Rican, and occasionally French. This used to not bother me but now its getting annoying. At work when Filipinos need a translator they always say "Can I have a Filipino because I'm not good in English" even though I'm Filipino and I could speak Tagalog fluently! And when people see my white dad they always ask if Im adopted or something. I don't blame anyone for assuming I'm a different race because I know that I don't look Filipino and that I only look a little bit white. I don't know why but its been really irritating lately. How could I stop this from annoying me?People always assume im another race and its starting to annoy me?
You can grow some thicker skin. People are not too good at identifying ethnicities, mainly because ethnicities are only identifiable through culture and language. I have to wonder why this is even an issue.
People of mixed ethnicity are more and more common. You can't possibly expect people to know your background without any personal knowledge about you! You yourself have probably mistaken someone's ethnic identity before and not even realized it! Be more forgiving of people, this is a country of thousands of different cultures and backgrounds and people cannot possibly know all of them. Just be proud and don't take people's comments as being rude or trying to hurt you, use it as a chance to educate one more person.People always assume im another race and its starting to annoy me?
I understand, I have the same problem because I have dark hair and tan whereas my sister is blonde with pale skin that doesn't tan. We compare notes. Well, I just embraced the fact I was being mistakenly thought of as a foreigner in my own country. My sister laughs, as people think she is Swedish and I'm French or Italian, and we are both born and bred English.
people always judge what they don't understand. that's life. People always assume im another race and its starting to annoy me?
By realizing that some people are not trying to offend you. They really just do not know.

I always get spanish speakers come up to me and start talking rapidly in spanish-I'm vietnamese but I really don't look like your average asian.

In all honesty you have to realize that they lack the sense of culture that you have because they were not raised in the same sort of environment and were not as exposed to certain things as you; once you realize this, it'll be a lot easier to brush off your shoulders.

I've had people ask me if I'm Chinese,Cambodian, Laos, Latina, Black (I know, right?) and even Muslim (which is the stupidest thing, Muslim is religion and you can be Muslim no matter WHAT race you are). People are scarily ignorant, and don't sink to their level. Keep your head up and just know that they lack info on some serious levels.

I recently got a job to translate English to Portuguese. However, I do not understand Portuguese. I hired a translator to do the job and gave them a short demo. I would like anyone who understands Portuguese to explain to me if the translation in the demo is fine.

Here is the English script I sent -

Um, pwned. Cool Who am I?

My 'friend' keeps calling my girlfriend loli... what the hell does that mean?

he said it was something to do with me being older than her... I'm 18, she's 17(yes where i live that's totally legal!).....

he keeps calling her lo and loli.... her name is Marta, i really don't see the connection....

he's from the Filipins, so i checked a translator... but it's not a word in Tagalog...

    anyone?

thanks =] My 'friend' keeps calling my girlfriend loli... what the hell does that mean?
He could be referring to the story/movie "Lolita" in which an older man falls for a much younger girl. She is called 'Lo', 'Loli' and 'Lolita' throughout the story/movie (I believe her real name was Delores or something like that).
i have nothing dude i never even heard it or even bothered to imagine a word of such.

    to my guess

my opinion that it has to do with a under aged love.

    m guess don't believe me

    please its just a guess.

My 'friend' keeps calling my girlfriend loli... what the hell does that mean?
"loli" is slang for either "Lolita" (pretty much meaning an underage girl) or "lolli" the pedophilia type of anime.

I'm guessing your friends are just bugging you two because she's still not 18 yet.
Loli is just a different way of saying the name, Its Sorta like a nickname or something..

My 'friend' keeps calling my girlfriend loli... what the hell does that mean?
In other words Lollipop. He means that she is young. Also Lolli could be another word for penis.

  • United Nation Translators Job?

Hello, this is probably a stupid question. But I thought it might be worth asking rather then just sitting around bored as hell all day.

Is it possible for a 16 year old High School student to get a part time contracted job as a United Nation Translator? Provided that he is fluent in English, Japanese and could probably pass for Tagalog.

Yes, no, maybe so? Will I need to be evaluated thought proficiency tests?United Nation Translators Job?
Absolutely not. You would need a university degree, specialized training, certified competency (and simultaneous interpreting is far more difficult than mere translation), and plenty of experience before you could qualify for the UN. We do not start at the top, but at the bottom, and then we work our way up. Instead of sitting around bored, make sure you have top grades so you can go to a top college so you can have a top job some day. What you do now is just as important as what you dream of doing some day. It is all a continuum.United Nation Translators Job?
There is one thing you can start doing now to help prepare you for such a career. Turn to an all-news station on the radio and try to repeat back every word as the announcer goes along. It is hard to do even without the added factor of translating. But practice and you will get better at it.

    English-filipino/tagalog translation help...?

    Hi,

I'm trying to translate the following into filipino language.

"I know about your girlfriend. I also know you are not serious about her and you are just playing around. Leave her if you truly don't love her so someone else can make her happy."

Here is what I got on google translate:

"Alam ko ang tungkol sa iyong girlfriend. Ko rin alam ikaw ay hindi malubhang tungkol sa kanya. ikaw ay lamang ng paglalaro sa paligid. Iwanan ang kanyang kung tunay na hindi siya mahal kaya ng ibang tao ay maaaring gumawa ng kanyang masaya. "

Is the translation correct? I know sometimes online translators are not very accurate or sound overly formal.

I think the girl i like is dating an ****** who is married and that he is making false promises and lying to her, just need to be sure without anyone knowing I got involved so I can stop worrying.

    Thanks :)English-filipino/tagalog translation help...?
"I know about your girlfriend. I also know you are not serious about her and you are just playing around. Leave her if you truly don't love her so someone else can make her happy."

The first sentence is. The rest were translated word for word.

A more appropriate translation would be:

"Alam ko ang tungkol sa girlfriend (nobya/katipan) mo. Alam ko rin na hindi ka seryoso sa kanya at nakikipaglaro ka lang. Kung talagang hindi mo siya mahal, iwanan mo siya para mapasaya siya ng iba."English-filipino/tagalog translation help...?

Good luck with this girl. But remember, you can not influence other people's opinion. She might be happy and only her will wake up one day and realize what she is doing is wrong, no one and nothing can convince her otherwise. Certainly not her boyfriend.

I want to be fluent in both languages by the time I graduate highschool. I want to have a career where i can speak these languages, cuz i really enjoy it. what good jobs could i get where i can make alot of money? i dont really know much other than a translator..or something..

What kind of career could i have?
    anything you want to be

the sky is the limit, baby

i wish you great luck in the future

    :)

There's a lot of jobs where you'd get more money for being fluent in different languages, however the career is all your choice. It all depends on what you want to be when you get older, we can't decide that for you. Do some research on jobs that you can make a career in whether it be in business or something else, see what you like.

Good luck. What kind of career could i have?
Well, you could do what I do, work in a business that you go to other places where you know how to speak the language then do meetings for your boss.
sounds like translator since the only info you've given us is you learning different languages

You can always work for the government in Embassy or Foreign Affairs or CIA, FBI, pretty much anything.

Translating Positions in the Marine Corps?

I am a 21 yr old white American citizen. I lived in the Philippines (Southeast Asia) for several years and became fluent in the Tagalog language. Becoming a Marine is something I need to accomplish, I plan on enlisting by next year and would like to know what opportunities could be available to me. Can enlisted Marines serve as linguists or translators? Would I get paid more and possibly be assigned to the Philippines? Are there other government positions available than can utilize my ability?Translating Positions in the Marine Corps?
I have a Staff Sergeant in my platoon that is fluent in Tagalog. He gets paid a tidy monthly "bonus" for his skills of about $250 and is offerred reenlistment bonuses for his skills in excess of $20K. To be perfectly honest, though, he has been in the Marine Corps nearly ten years and has yet to use his language skills. The mostly likely scenario for actually using your language skills would be to get into the intelligence field (even then, you will spend much of your career NOT speaking Tagalog), or being part of the Marine Security Detachment that guards the embassy in Manilla. Usually, Marines spend three years on "embassy duty" before moving on to a new unit. Keep in mind you will probably have to spend several years in the Marines before you are eligible for embassy duty and if below the rank of Staff Sergeant, you must be unmarried. If you desire to use your language skills to develop a career, I would recommend working for the Department of State instead of the US Marine Corps. If you're willing to only occasionally use your language skills (say 1/3 of a 20 year career) and want to be a part of a warfighting institution, the Marine Corps is for you.Translating Positions in the Marine Corps?
Yes you can become a translator, you would not be payed more because that depends on your rank and E1 and E2 are payed the same in every branch. You could be sent to the Philippines because that's what you would be doing.

What are the best languages to learn to be a well paid Linguist/Translator?

I'm already pretty proficient in Spanish, not 100% fluent though, and I was learning Tagalog before as well. I am in my second semester of college and want to major in Languages. What would be the best ones to focus on? In order to achieve a point of having a decently paid profession in this. Thank you. What are the best languages to learn to be a well paid Linguist/Translator?
I am sorry, but to have a good career as a translator, a person must speak at least two languages with native-level fluency, which can seldom be learned in college. There is too much competition from people who are bilingual-bicultural from birth for others to have a much of a chance in this very competitive field. So, the answer is none. What are the best languages to learn to be a well paid Linguist/Translator?
Spanish will serve you much better than Tagalog.. being there a lot more Spanish speaker than Philipinos.. However, if there is a large population in your area.. It could be in greater demand, as there are also less bilingual for E/T.. where there are many E/S bilinguals..

Though.. the translators that are in high demand right now.. are actually for "Ebonics"..

I'm not kidding. I translate E/S.. and I was looking for extra work recently.. All the jobs in translation were for Ebonics.. The police need to catch all those drug dealers/gang bangers down in the ghettos.

    Best wishes..

Here you go. Some statements were changed a bit because I'm not really adept in translating.

If the fans of Sam Milby and Anne Curtis of the just finished Maging Sino Ka Man 2 * are disappointed because they were not able to come here, then rejoice! Just like the news from Banat Hinugyaw** last Sunday, it is final that the two will pair up for the fantaserye*** "Dyosa" ****for ABS-CBN*****. According to the source, Luis Manzano and Zanjoe Marudo will co-star in this series. Along with this, news also came that the production staff jokes with Anne "There (GMA*****), you were a mermaid, here you are a goddess!" We recall that it was rumored that the role of Dyesebel ****** was offered to Anne, who turned down the role since she is happy with Kapamilya *******.

Hence, we are anticipating for the rivalry of Anne's Goddess and Marian's Dyesebel in primetime (tv slot).

*Name of movie of tv show, I'm not sure

this is not tagalog. Maybe an another dialect.

i am a native tagalog speaker

    Who knows tagalog? Translation please..?

I have cousins in the philips. and they do not know english. I am trying sooo hard to

communicate with them but it is really hard. I am using translator but what they say doesn't

translate it in google translate it gives me gibberish! What does

    here is our conversation.

    1. cno po kyo ??\

    2.indi

    3.cno po ba kyo ???

    4.cno ba kyo ??

    5.cno ka ba ??

    6.cno ka ??

I only know that 2. says No.

What do the other things say?Who knows tagalog? Translation please..?
    1. cno po kyo? (Correct= Sino po kayo? Po means respect) Who are you?

    2. Indi (Hindi) No

    3. Cno po ba kyo? (Sino po ba kayo?) Who are you , really?

    4. cno ba kyo? (Sino ba kayo?) Who are you %26lt;-At this point, your cousins are getting really irritated.

    5. Cno ka ba? (Sino ka ba) Who are you? %26lt;-Now, they are really getting irritated

    6. Cno ka? (Sino ka?) Who are you? %26lt;-They are angry

    LOL

The reason why you are getting gibberish from the translator is because none of the words were spelled correctly. I guess you are using text then? Or chat? Filipinos have their own language this days, especially in texting. They got tired of spelling the right words and ended up subtracting a vowel or almost all of the vowels in the word and mostly use numbers to use as pronounciation like the word "dito(deeto)" ends up being "d2(deetu)" that way texting is much easier.
If "cno po kyo?" is Sino po kayo?, it means "Who are you?" ("po" expresses respect) and 3-6 would also mean "Who are you?" ("ba" is used for questions)Who knows tagalog? Translation please..?
    1, 3, 4, 5, and 6.

    means only one thing:

    Who are you?

    notes:

po and kayo were used as sign of respect.
    Meaning:

1.) Who are you? (po is to add respect)

2.) No (indi or hindi..same thing)

3.) Who are you (same as 1)

4.) Who are you all? (kayo usually refers to 2 or more person)

    5.) Who are you?

6.) Who're you? (saying it exactly like that)Who knows tagalog? Translation please..?
    Numbers 1, 3, 4, 5, and 6 all mean "Who are you?"

The reason that Google Translate gives you gibberish is that "cno" is a short way (usually used in text messaging) to say "sino" or "who."

"Kyo" is short-form for "kayo" or "you," (in a formal way).

I think they were getting a bit flustered from number 4 on, as they removed the "po" from their question. Usually, when Filipino people speak to strangers, they use "po" to be polite.
    1. Who are you? (polite)

    2. No

    3. Who are you? (polite)

    4. Who are you? (plural and informal)

    5. Who are you? (singular and informal)

    6. Who are you? (singular and informal)

Flam with fluent english but having trouble with speaking tagalog?

    Need help! getting tiresome of being looked at like a dollar sign cause being unable to speak tagalog already know quite a few bad words and such so if its towards me or around i know what they mean but the rest is way to hard...translators online are horrible and not really reliable per-say and waray-waray speaking is making it harder to learn learning more expressions and such from the main base language but not the dialect language %26gt;.%26gt;

With the whole emphasizing the "r" heavily in waray but tagalog dont see any of that one bit any kind of help is needed! Very determined to be semi fluent or try to be fluent in tagalog! %26gt;.%26lt;Flam with fluent english but having trouble with speaking tagalog?
Why don't you ask the people around you to start teaching you?

Do you look Filipino or not?

    Are you in province?

I'm sure that there's at least one person around you who can teach you Tagalog. Just ask that person to teach you a Tagalog sentence or word everyday.

Or I can teach you if you want to.Flam with fluent english but having trouble with speaking tagalog?
You can use the babylon for this purpose. It's the best translator in my opinion:

Can anyone point me to free Tagalog tutor & how to write romantic poetry in Tagalog?

I write a lot of poetry in English and would really like to write something poetic %26amp; romantic in Tagalog for my girlfriend in PH. I've been trying to do it using translators online however I'm certain the intended message is lost or obscured in translation. I know this is something she would really appreciate so I'm determined to achieve it for her.

I'm hoping someone may be able to point me in the right direction. My poetic message must be in my own words from my own heart because my feelings for her are real ...so I have no desire to send her something someone else has written. I'm sure everyone would understand why that is so important.

    :)

    Thankyou in advance,

    Kev

"Love is ...so many wonderful things and all those wonderful things are my babygirl!"Can anyone point me to free Tagalog tutor %26amp; how to write romantic poetry in Tagalog?
Hello sir, I appreciate your love for our language. Anyway, I would help you to translate your poem. Here it goes,

When first I saw your smile I loved the way you smiled.

Nagustohan ko'ng iyong ngiti noong ito'y makita ko nung una

When first I read about the things you do I admired you.

Nagustohan kita nang aking mabasa ang mga nagawa mo nung una

When first we talked I respected the way you spoke.

Ang respeto ko'y iyong nakuha nang tayo'y nag-usap nung una

When first you laughed I had to laugh with you.

Ako'y napasaya ng iyong tawa nung una

When first you cried I wanted to hug you.

Ibig kitang akapin nung makita kang umiiyak nung una

When first you smiled AT me I melted...

Ako'y natunaw nang ako'y iyong ngitian nung una

and ever since I have wanted for you to smile because of me!

At kahit kailan, iibigin kong ika'y ngumiti nang dahil sa akin!

    Now I still admire you

    Ngayo'y muli kitang iniibig

    Now I still respect you

    Ngayo'y muli kitang nirerespeto

Now I still laugh with you

Ngayo'y tayo'y muling tumatawa nang sabay

Now I still want to hug you

    Ibig kong akapin kang muli

But now you DO smile because of me

Ngayo'y ngumingiti ka nang dahil sa 'kin

And I smile because of YOU!

At ako'y may ngiti nang dahil sa'yo!
Thankyou everyone! I found each response very helpful in different ways. Eg: the difference between poetic/conversational Tagalog. The comparison is similar to Textbook English/Shakespearean English.

ragdefen got my vote as his post encouraged me to post the poem which encouraged everyone else. TY:D

Can anyone point me to free Tagalog tutor %26amp; how to write romantic poetry in Tagalog?
I do not know if there are online Filipino (or Tagalog) tutors out there. But surely, if there are, they may teach you only conversational Filipino (or Tagalog). Poetic Tagalog is slowly becoming extinct because of the dominance of Manila Tagalog (or Filipino). Besides, Poetic Tagalog is not appreciated enough among most Tagalog speakers and the Filipinos in general.

I can translate your quoted sentence in two different ways ways:

"Ang pag-ibig ay puno ng magandang mga bagay at ang mga magandang bagay ay ikaw." --- This is Filipino (or conversational Tagalog)

This is how the translation will look like in Poetic Tagalog : "Hitik sa maririkit na kabagayan ang pagmamahal, at yaong kabagayan ay ikaw, aking irog".
I beg to disagree with maia. Maia's translation is too ordinary, or I can say that she uses the conversational/intimate form of speaking. But, pepito uses the poetic form. Although, maia's and pepito's are both correct, I think pepito has the most appealing translation. Can anyone point me to free Tagalog tutor %26amp; how to write romantic poetry in Tagalog?
Filipino is one of the hardest and most complex languages there is. I had Malaysian classmates back in college who would swear by it! Needless to say, there is no online translator that I would trust to translate poetry (of all things!) into Filipino.

Here is a machine translation of your quote:

Love ay ... kaya maraming mga kahanga-hangang mga bagay-bagay at lahat ng mga kahanga-hangang bagay ang aking babygirl

which is unintelligible not to mention the machine forgot the FIlipino word for love. It also translated so to "kaya" which is wrong because there is no literal translation. The machine should just drop the word "kaya" and the sentence makes more sense, but there was nothing poetic in the way it was said.

Edit: Thumbs up to beachbum who did a fine translation! I think you'll have to do it this way. Put your entire poetry in this forum and beachbum or some other poetically inclined Flip will translate for you.
beachbum's translation is impressive. pepito's is not. i think pepito is not a native tagalog speaker. i'll also give it a try. i'm pure tagalog and a writer as well.

When first we talked I respected the way you spoke.

Nang una tayong mag-usap, ginalang ko ang iyong pananalita.

When first you laughed I had to laugh with you.

Nang una kang tumawa, ako rin ay napatawa.

When first you cried I wanted to hug you.

Nang una kang umiyak, nais kong yakapin ay ikaw.

When first you smiled AT me I melted...

Nang ngumiti ka sa akin, ako ay natunaw.

and ever since I have wanted for you to smile because of me!

At mula noon, ninais kong ngiti mo'y muling matanaw.

    Now I still admire you

    Ngayo'y ginagalang pa rin kita.

Now I still laugh with you

    Ngayo'y sabay tayong tumatawa.

Now I still want to hug you

    Ngayon, nais ay yakapin ka.

But now you DO smile because of me

    Ngunit ngayo'y napangingiti na kita

And I smile because of YOU!

    At ako'y pinangingiti mo, sinta.

  • TAGALOG TRANSLATION how do i say " we did so good today!! not to bad since we havent played in a long while"?

only fluent people cause when you use translators, the mess up the grammar =pTAGALOG TRANSLATION how do i say " we did so good today!! not to bad since we havent played in a long while"?
Assuming that you're talking about a musical instrument or a band:

"Ang galing natin kanina! Lalo na dahil matagal na tayo hindi tumogtog."

"We did so well (during that event)! Especially considering the fact that we haven't played in a long time."

If you're talking about a game or a sport, replace "tumogtog" in the sentence above with "naglaro".

EDIT: Using "ngayon" makes the sentence sound more like: "We're so good now" or "We've really improved" as opposed to "We did really well (during that particular event)".TAGALOG TRANSLATION how do i say " we did so good today!! not to bad since we havent played in a long while"?
ayos naman laro namin ngayon, tutal, matagal na rin kami di nakapaglaro.TAGALOG TRANSLATION how do i say " we did so good today!! not to bad since we havent played in a long while"?
"We did so good today! Not too bad since we haven't played in a long while."

The sentence also has bad grammar, it should be:

鈥?"We did so well today! Not too bad since we haven't played in a long time."

Sorry, just wanted to point it out! ^^

    Anyway, you can say:

鈥?"Ang galing natin ngayon! Ayos lang kasi ang tagal na natin hindi nag laro."

There's many variations as to how you could say this sentence though. So you can expect to get different answers from different Filipino people.

Also "ngayon" can mean now. Today can be translated into "sa araw na ito." but we usually say 'ngayon or today' since we incorporate a lot of English into our daily conversations. "Sa araw na ito" would be too long to say so we just substitute in English words.

    Anyway, hope I helped! ^.^
