Dell PC help - How do you restore factory settings?
I have a Dell Inspiron 531. Need to do a factory restore because it is running increasingly slow. I have read a number of FAQs saying to hit F8 on the Dell start up screen, or failing that Ctrl + F11. I tried both these methods about 5 times with no success, no menu shows or any indication of it working. It isn't the keyboard either as I can open the F2 and F12 settings easily. Any ideas?Dell PC help - How do you restore factory settings?go to the link below, that is the manual for your computer.it is a pdf file,so you will need like adobe reader to open it.go to pages 88-93 and that will be the instructions on how to restore your computer.i would use the instructions on page 91,the Dell PC Restore and Dell Factory Image Restore on the hard drive.Do not delete Dell pc restore.that way you can print out the pages and follow them step by step.as you can see you dont press Alt+F11,you press Ctrl+F11.Thats why it always helps to have the instructions in front of you.need more help email me.Dell PC help - How do you restore factory settings?depending how old it is it may have a recovery partition on the hard drive. This can be initiated by pressing ALT + F11 when the computer is first switched on. You will need to hold down ALT as soon as the Dell splash screen appears, and repeatedly press F11. The window of opportunity is very small, so this may take a few attempts. The Disk2Disk recovery feature allows you to recover the system without recovery CDs. This will return your system to factory settings and will delete everything stored on the machine. If possible I strongly advise backing up anything important on your machine before starting the recovery process, if it does not have a recovery partition then you will need the recovery disks that came with it, if these are not available you could try and get a windows disk of the exact type that is already installed e.g. XP Home. you can find this out by checking the windows licence key which is a small blue/green sticker on the pc.book clubs christian bookstore
