I was playing on my laptop 2 days ago when all of a sudden my screen went black with a underscore in the upper left corner blinking. Every time I turn my computer on now the Dell acts like its going to load up and work but it goes straight to the black screen with the underscore blinking in the upper left corner. Can anyone please help me fix this problem? How to fix my dell inspiron 1545 laptop the screen went black with a underscore blinking in left corner?Your Hard drive is most likely shot you need to buy a new one and load a OS. If you need a free OS Ubuntu.com is a good one. Use the 10.04 version. It's alot like windows just some differences, but there is pretty good support. How to fix my dell inspiron 1545 laptop the screen went black with a underscore blinking in left corner?
Throw water over it
Set fire to it?How to fix my dell inspiron 1545 laptop the screen went black with a underscore blinking in left corner?Great question. The operating system is more than likely dead. Perhaps you modified a file or some sort. The hard drive instead dead because if it was you wouldn't be able to boot up the laptop.
All you need to do is reformat the operating system and you should be as good as new.
Keep in mind that reformatting your hard drive will wipe everything off of it, including any personal files you may want to keep. You can save these files with a device called an IDE/SATA to USB Adapter (Google "BT-300 topmicrousa") and you should find a device that allows you to back up files without going through the slow or damaged operating system. It works like an external hard drive and I would definitely recommend it.

It sounds like you might have a Master Boot Record virus. I've seen similar problems and that's what the problem was. Follow the steps in the like and you might be able to solve the problemHow to fix my dell inspiron 1545 laptop the screen went black with a underscore blinking in left corner?you didnt accidentally push the function key to send the output to an external monitor did you.
or perhaps your game was working the laptop in a silly screen size and you now have a laptop set to a graphics screen size that the lcd does not support
try preessing F8 on startup and go in as SAFE MODE then just shutdown, do a restart and see if that fixes it.
otherwise you may need to roll back to RESTORE point which may be quite old so you might lose a few things.
