How do I make the keys on my dell laptop work??

I just installed a new keyboard on my older dell laptop and it worked for a little while I thought but the keys that have the letters and the numbers on are only typing the numbers unless I hold the FN key down while typing which is a pain or have a desktop keyboard plugged into the back of the laptop then I can type without a problem. Any ideas as to why or what is causing this problem and can it be an easy fix?

Thanks so much!!!!!How do I make the keys on my dell laptop work??You have the num lock turned on.

Turn it off. I think it is FN + NumLock

This toggles it.

-tcwHow do I make the keys on my dell laptop work??The reason why your Laptop keyboard could be acting this way is ebcuase of two things:

1. The Keyboard's driver needs to be updated, for it has been recently installed

2. There is a problem with the Laptop's keyboard port on the Motherboard

Seeing that option two seems a bit out of reach at the moment, option one is what I am mainly going for. You will either need to:

- Update the Driver

- Roll back the Driver

To Update a Driver, you can do it two ways: 1) By using Windows Update top find the updated driver for you; or 2) Manually updating the driver. To Manually update the driver, follow the steps below:

1. Open Device Manager by clicking the Start button , clicking Control Panel, clicking System and Maintenance, and then clicking Device Manager

2. In Device Manager, locate the device you want to update, and then double-click the device name

3. Click the Driver tab, and then click Update Driver and follow the instructions

To Roll back the Driver, follow the steps below:

1. Click Start, and then click Control Panel

2. Click Performance and Maintenance, and then click System. On the Hardware tab, click Device Manager

3. Navigate to the driver you wish to roll back, right click the name of the driver and choose Properties

4. Click the Driver tab and then click Roll Back Driver

As you can see, this problem can be a realtivley easy fix and doesn't cost you any money. The problem could be caused by the fact that this is a new keyboard, and it didn't plug-and-play with Windows and was not recognized right away. Following the steps above and trying out both options should fix the problemHow do I make the keys on my dell laptop work??try opening up the bottom of the keyboard and checking if there is dust, food, or of anything sticky between the keys. this all could prevent it from typing properly. and if u previously dropped liquid on it, it could freeze up and break it too.
